Introduction
|
The analysis and construction of transducers is a multidisciplinary endeavour. Top universities across the globe and industry research centers investigate the fields of electromagnetics, fluidics, and microfabrication to name a few. Transducers can be classified into several broad areas: Microsensors - devices which measures a physical quantity and convert it into a signal which can be read by an observer or by an instrument. Examples include temperature sensors, pressure sensors, and optical measurement devices. Microactuators - are mechanical devices for moving or controlling a mechanism. Typical devices include electrostatic, thermal, and electromagnetic actuation. Microsystems - are a broad categegory of interacting components. They have applications for bio-sensing, chemical monitoring, and industrial applications.
